Job Description

Prepare yourself for a refreshingly honest advert.

8 weeks from go live probably isn’t the time to start redesigning the architecture.

It is a very good time to bring in someone who’s seen this movie before.

We’re looking for a seasoned Transformation Architect to join a circa £25m business transformation programme, built predominantly around the Microsoft technology stack.

The programme is well underway. The first go live is approximately 8 weeks away and a lot of the big architectural decisions have already been made.

So, in the interest of transparency… you’re not being brought in to tell everyone how you would have done it.

Your job is to understand what’s there, assimilate a lot of information very quickly and use your experience to help get this transformation over the line.

There will inevitably be things you might have done differently. That’s transformation.

They need someone experienced enough to recognise the difference between something that genuinely needs addressing and something that simply needs accepting and delivering

This position will see you working closely with the programme sponsor and that relationship is important.

They’re looking for someone capable of taking a view across the transformation, joining the dots and giving clear, considered advice when it matters. And, importantly, your voice will travel.

This is a sponsor who listens, understands that they won’t always have the answer and is prepared to act on good advice in real time.

There’s not layer upon layer of hierarchy to fight through before somebody makes a decision.

You’ll also be joining a friendly organisation with a relatively high appetite for risk. Things move quickly, decisions get made and you’ll need to be comfortable operating in that environment.

This isn’t architecture from the sidelines.

It’s delivery.

We need somebody who has been through multiple major transformation programmes and knows what this stage of a programme actually feels like.

You’ll need:

  • A strong Enterprise / Transformation Architecture background

  • Multiple large-scale, end-to-end transformation programmes under your belt

  • Experience working across the Microsoft technology stack

  • A considerable amount of transformation delivery experience

  • The ability to absorb a lot of information and understand a programme quickly

  • Experience operating as a trusted advisor to C-suite stakeholders

  • Strong enough judgement to know when to challenge and when to move forward

  • The pragmatism to work with the architecture, decisions and constraints already in place

  • The ability to operate comfortably in an organisation with a high appetite for risk

And a quick word on scale. This is a transformation costing approximately £25m.

We’re looking for somebody accustomed to programmes of this size and ideally considerably larger. If £25m feels like a particularly big transformation programme, this probably isn’t the right assignment.(I told you it was refreshingly honest).

The initial contract is six months with a good chance of extension, sits outside IR35 and is predominantly remote, with occasional travel to the client’s HQ.
